The Strolling Players
Founded by Bill & Gertrud Tart, Gerald Hobson, Barry Olding and a host of dedicated thesps, The Strolling Players were founded in 1951. With a mandate to tour 'classics' around small Tasmanian country towns, they delighted audiences as far afield as Wynyard, Hagley, Campania and Scottsdale.
For Stella Kent's reminiscences on The Strolling Players, and the early days of the Rep, please check out the "History" page here.
In 1954, under the auspices of the Adult Education Board, The Strolling Players transformed into the Launceston Repertory Society.
This page is a work-in-progress and attempts to gather together information on Three River's founding company. There will be more information to come. The wonderful images below are courtesy of Stella and Harry Kent.
